Polish-Portuguese Symposium on Biomaterials 2025

On October 8, 2025, the Polish-Portuguese Symposium on Biomaterials took place at the AGH University of Krakow. The event brought together researchers and professionals to discuss recent advances and international collaborations in the field of biomaterials engineering. The symposium was organized by the Polish Society for Biomaterials (represented by Prof. Elżbieta Pamuła - President), in cooperation with the Faculty of Materials Science and Ceramics, AGH University of Krakow (represented by Prof. Aneta Frączek-Szczypta - Vice Dean for General Affairs and Research), and the Young Scientists Forum of the European Society for Biomaterials (represented by Dr Patrycja Domalik-Pyzik - ESB-YSF Board Member). The event was dedicated to everyone interested in the interdisciplinary field of biomaterials and international scientific exchange, with special focus on PhD students and early-career researchers.

Program highlights:

Experts' Panel

  • Prof. Cristina Barrias: Modular Bottom-up Strategies for Microvascular Network Assembly

  • Prof. Aneta Zima: New Trends in Bioceramic Materials for Bone Regeneration

  • Prof. Judite Barbosa: Immunomodulatory Biomaterials as a Bridge Between Inflammation and Tissue Regeneration

Next-Gen Biomaterials: Stories from the Lab

  • Dr Konrad Kwiecień: Inhalable Dry Powders from Polyanhydride Microparticles as a Weapon Against Pulmonary Infections

  • Short oral presentations by MSc and PhD students showcasing their latest research results.

During the “Next-Gen Biomaterials: Stories from the Lab” session 20 short presentations were delivered by talented MSc and PhD students. Their talks were evaluated by our experts, who selected three awardees:
- Best Presentation Award – Kamila Walczak
- Ex aequo Second Place – Kinga Kowalska and Aleksandra Lisowska

The event was part of a continuing series of international meetings organized jointly by the PSB and the Faculty of Materials Science and Ceramics, AGH University of Krakow.

Previous editions included:

  • Mini Symposium: Let’s Talk International Cooperation in Biomaterials Science (2022),

  • Polish-Scandinavian Symposium on Biomaterials (2023).

The symposium was an excellent opportunity for Polish and Portuguese researchers to exchange knowledge, experiences, and inspiration.

We thank all participants for their active participation!
